political pluralism and the call for democracy
One of the things that Dr. Awad Al-Qarni talks about and seeks to spread is good dealing with the opposing party and respecting the other opinion, even if you do not agree with it.
Dr. Awad was spreading awareness about the need for society to be represented by people from all components of society. He spoke about this in an interview and it was his answer to the program presenter’s question about the people of the solution and the contract. Dr. Awad has a well-known book entitled “Fiqh al-Khilāf” in which he talks about the etiquette of dealing with those with whom you disagree in opinion, and that this is a normal matter starting from the family to the wide world, but how to deal with it? Whoever reads Dr. Awad’s writings and listens to his speech will know with certainty his moderation, his acceptance of the other’s opinion, and his good dealings with those who disagreed with him.
About his call for freedom, democracy and elections, Dr. Awad wrote a letter to Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz. Under the title “The Dossier of Developing Political Work at Home” the letter states “Despite the huge internal and external changes intellectually, culturally, socially, and in the media and communication, the development of work mechanisms and political and popular participation did not keep pace with these developments, even if only formally. We need to develop the powers of the Shura Council and the regional councils and form them through elections, albeit partially in stages. We also need to expand freedom of expression with its legal controls”.
Dr. Awad Al-Qarni wrote in the same letter under the title of the Shiite file, “We are in need.”We need a unified strategy based on a documented study in which everyone contributes. This strategy stems from the reality in which we live, and is based on Sharia principles in dealing with transgressor from the citizens of the Muslim country, and the official side and the popular side are integrated, so that their rights as citizens are preserved, and they are integrated into society instead of to remain a socially isolated group”.
Dr. Awad Al-Qarni wrote about his call for the Shura Council to be an elected council, “All people will feel that they are partners in shouldering the responsibility. It will also achieve the required social cohesion, but on the condition that there is integrity and real powers”.
Dr. Awad Al-Qarni also wrote, “Election is a modern mechanism to achieve the goals and objectives of legitimate politics. It is also a means to bridge many of the doors of strife and tensions. It is an investment of the nation’s energies”.
This was the tip of the iceberg of what Dr. Awad Al-Qarni wrote, and in his speech and lectures a lot about that, which leaves no doubt about Dr. Awad’s moderation and his attempt to reform society.
