Dr. Awad Al-Qarni was arbitrarily dismissed from his academic position as “Assistant Professor” at King Khalid University in Abha (formerly Imam Muhammad bin Saud, Abha Branch)

He was summoned for interrogation, Because he spoke about the danger of the Houthis

The Saudi State Security Presidency arrested Dr. Awad AlQarni without a judicial order. After I stormed his house with more than a hundred soldiers, they aimed their weapons at everyone in the house, including children and women. The house search continued late into the night, while they tried to handcuff him and his eyes in present of his children
Dr. Awad Al-Qarni had been hiding in a narrow solitary cell for more than a year. The Saudi government has been putting many obstacles in the way of seeing his family in flagrant violation of local and international laws and the principles of human rights
Dr. Awad Al-Qarni was not allowed to attend his daughter's wedding, in order to harm him and his family
The first secret trial session was held for the law professor, Dr. Awad Al-Qarni, without allowing him to appoint a lawyer to defend him, in permanent and explicit violation of local laws and international covenants that stipulate that trials should be public according to a number of rules and controls
Without legal reasons, nor fair procedures, the second secret session was held for Dr. Awad Al-Qarni
During 2019, the secret court sessions of the prominent legal expert, Dr. Awad Al-Qarni, continued with the continued absence of formal legal procedures.
In light of the continued violation of the law and the violation of human rights, Dr. Awad Al-Qarni was prevented from attending his son's wedding, although Saudi law stipulates that this is permitted.
In a dangerous precedent inside Saudi prisons, Dr. Awad Al-Qarni was given the wrong medication in an attempt to get rid of it, which caused Dr. Awad Al-Qarni to suffer from drug poisoning. Because of this, he stayed in the prison hospital for more than two months.
In view of the health setback that Dr. Awad Al-Qarni suffered due to deliberately harming him in prison and as a result of which he was transferred to the hospital, the scheduled sentencing session was postponed to another date.
Because of the survival of Dr. Awad Al-Qarni in the hospital, it was not possible to hold the verdict hearing again
After many delays, the Saudi authorities set a new date for pronouncing the verdict. Suddenly, the pronouncement of the verdict turned into a hearing, in order not to resolve the case of Dr. Awad Al-Qarni and continue his arrest. The violations against him increased, as he attended the session in a wheelchair due to the drug poisoning he was exposed to.
Without prior warning, the court held another secret trial session for Dr. Awad Al-Qarni.

UN investigator Agnes Callamard and five others issued a report. The report calls for his immediate release, and warns against sentencing him to death under the pretext of the false charges brought against him.
Dr. Awad Al-Qarni was prevented from attending his son's wedding. It is the third wedding held for his family after his arrest, and he is prevented from attending it. This is considered a new deprivation that the father, Awad Al-Qarni, is subjected to after being deprived of his freedom.
The son of Dr. Awad Al-Qarni, Engineer Nasser Al-Qarni, managed to flee Saudi Arabia, bringing with him the list of lawsuits filed against his father. He revealed the grave violations his father was subjected to in prison. Arrest and then torture in prison as well as false accusations. This is considered a real victory for the Al-Qarni family after years of travel ban, which they were unjustly granted only because they are the children of an innocent detainee.
Dr. Awad Al-Qarni was subjected to illegal trials and violations of his most basic rights, such as the right to hire a lawyer and the right to a confidential trial. False accusations were brought against him without any evidence. Despite all this, the Public Prosecution demanded the execution of Dr. Awad Al-Qarni, disregarding all local and international laws.
